7 Path Classical Cretan Pinestraw
and Rainbow Labyrinths
Camp New Song Grief Camp

Circle of Life This labyrinth was co-created by Annette Reynolds at Camp New Song, a 2 day bereavement camp for children and teens who have lost a loved one due to terminal illness. The Circle of Life was the theme for this camp and the 3 fold path of the labyrinth was used as a guide to the group process, camp schedule, and camp activities with the labyrinth as the centerpiece and heart of the weekend. The labyrinth was made using natural materials found on the ground. Pine straw was used for the lines and red camellia blossoms and white pear tree blossoms were placed in the center. The children shared their grief stories, danced and sang on this labyrinth.
The following poem was written and recited by the teen group and presented during the closing ceremony.

True Blessings
The first day we arrived at camp
We all had a different feeling.
Some were excited, some were nervous
But all in need of healing.
We played some games
We had some fun.
We took a walk.
Trust had begun.
At the circle of life we walked the path
We began our journey to the middle.
We didnt know each other at first,
Peoples pains were such a riddle.
Huddled under a blanket we began to talk
We learned about one another.
Some had lost mothers, others had lost fathers
We shared like sisters and brothers.
In two short days weve come so far
Our hearts did much confessing.
With all its pain and all its sorrow,
The Circle of Life gives us true blessings.
